G54B DOHC HEAD
I am incredibly sorry if you experience difficulty viewing this web site.

As you can see, there is about 2.5 inches of clearance on the intake side as it is now. With the new head, a stock manifold would fit in nicely with room to spare.
Overall, the head is quite larger, but to the top of the valve covers it is about the same height. The dual cam head appears to be a lot wider, but the manifold surfaces are what counts. The exhaust side is actually almost identical (in position) to the stock head. While the intake side moved out about one inch. The distributor was moved to the passenger side, and the new head takes part in a manual chain slack adjuster, like a motorcycle.
The combustion chamber is quite small, I would have to say about 55 to 60 percent of the volume of original. This would be a problem for those of us running high boost levels, as the compression may be raised as high as 9.5 or more instead of the stock 7.0 to 1. -I haven't had a chance to measure the chambers yet.
The new head will make it extremely difficult to utilize the A/C, but I'm sure a bracket can be manufactured to mount the idler.
The valves are smaller(duh) than the stock ones, but keep in mind the port area is going to increase, as will the flow.
The exhaust side of the new head is the one with square bolt patterns around the ports. The intake has a triangular pattern.
Below are some pics of a Mazda head off of a Miata 1.8L. This is what I am trying to make the new head like. Even with a new design like this, and dual gears, it is only 1/4 inch taller than the stock head and cover, at their tallest points.

Yea, you read it right! My friend Kevin back in Ohio informed me recently that a member of his StarQuest forum has aquired an ORIGINAL HKS DOHC head designed for the G54 SOHC engine...the intial investment to get the ball rolling is $12,000 for R&D. The first run will yeild 20 units, @ ~$2000 each. each run thereafter will cost less. the intiial investors will also see a price break as well as profit sharing from non-intial investors (customers).
this Head will be BETTER than the original HK$ version, as it will be cut from a solid piece of Billet aluminum, CNC'd design. There are SS valves already available for it, the Cams are already able to be produced, the hardware will be the same, only twice as much as before. And, cam gears are the same as stock... you just need a 2nd one. an appropriate length timing chain will be available. You can use all the stock gaskets, sheet metal valve covers will be produced. the seats are already installed and come with a 3angle valve job. and itll be threaded for NGK plugs.
Only 40% of the design of the NEW head will be based off the original HK$ design, so its small enough to be considered an ORIGINAL design and have its own Patent number. the Original HK$ version was originally designed for a G54/G52 NA hybrid motor which had a 2.3L Diesel crank in it, which were used in the IMSA/GTU race classes... same series as the NA FC3S :)
OH, and this new head will yeild a projected 18% increase in VE, all else remaining stock... including boost level on the 12A turbo.
